Munich - Entertainment

This is definitely one of the strengths of this city. The concerts and theatre performances taking place here have an...

...outstanding reputation. Munich is also home to several major orchestras as well as a world-class opera and ballet. Consequently, there is a rich selection to chose from, whether on the classical or modern side. On top of that there are lot of open air festivals in and around the city during summer time.

As you might have thought there are a lot of events which focus pretty much on beer. In early spring the "Starkbierzeit" takes place. Exceptionally strong and tasty beer is brewed specifically for this event. Shortly after the "Fruehlingsfest", sometimes referred to as little Oktoberfest, takes place. At the end of September the world-famous Oktoberfest takes place. This is the biggest beer festival on earth, which has made Munich famous around the world. Of course there are also other events taking place throughout the year, the Tollwood culture festival in late June, the Christopher Street Day in July, and the Six Day bicycle racing event in autumn to name just a few.

In the past the freely available magazine "Monatsprogramm", published by the tourist office was a good source for event news. However, at the end of 2004 the tourist office discontinued this publication. Most recent news can now be found on the www.munich.de website.
